Georgia to face FSU in Capital One Orange Bowl

ATHENS-----The sixth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs will play fifth-ranked Florida State in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.ET and will be televised by ESPN.

The New Year’s Six game will be played at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, between the Bulldogs (12-1) and the Atlantic Coast Conference champion FSU Seminoles (13-0). Georgia and FSU have met 11 times previously with the Bulldogs holding a 6-4-1 advantage.

““On behalf of our team and especially our seniors we are looking forward to the opportunity to play in the Capital One Orange Bowl,” said UGA head coach Kirby Smart. “Playing in a city and game with such rich tradition will be a rewarding experience and it represents a great challenge playing a team like undefeated Florida State which has proven to be one of college football’s most accomplished programs. It also presents a great opportunity for our fans who have been so supportive of our team throughout the season at home and on the road. We had the opportunity to play in the Orange Bowl a couple of years ago and know firsthand how welcoming the people of South Florida can be.“

“We are honored with the selection of our team to play in the Orange Bowl,” J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks said. “As the first bowl game Georgia ever played in, our program has a unique history with the Orange Bowl. Our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans had an incredible experience two years ago in this game, and we look forward to another great week in Miami.”

Georgia has appeared in the Orange Bowl four times: Jan. 1, 1942, Georgia 40, TCU, 26; Jan. 1, 1949, Texas 41, Georgia 28; Jan. 1, 1960, Georgia 14, Missouri 0; and Dec. 31, 2021, Georgia 34, Michigan 11.

This will be Georgia’s 62nd bowl game appearance— second most of any team in the country. The Bulldogs’ all-time bowl record is 37-21-3. Georgia is making its 27th consecutive bowl appearance, which ranks as the longest active streak in the country.

Georgia’s senior class is currently 49-4 in their career with three bowl wins (Sugar, Orange, Chick-fil-A Peach), two CFP National Championships, one SEC Championship, and pending trip to the Capital One Orange Bowl.
