So Who Does Start at QB this Weekend?

Athens, GA- Reports have been swirling all week regarding Quarterback JT Daniels upper body injury (oblique). It is unsure the severity of the injury along with when the injury was sustained. Late in the week, reports started to surface regarding Daniels playing time this weekend.

OL Warren McClendon confirmed earlier this week that Backup QB Carson Beck has been splitting 1st team practice reps with Daniels during the week. Maria Martin of 11alive reported late Friday that Daniels was out this this weekend versus UAB and Carson Beck would serve as as the starter.

There's a few things to unpack here.

For Daniels, this situation feels like deja vu. Daniels was the starting QB for USC at the start of 2019 and injured his knee in the season opener. Daniels was out with a Torn ACL and eventually saw QB Kedon Slovis take over the starting position. Daniels transferred to UGA the upcoming offseason.

To Assume Kirby Smart is going to move forward with Carson Beck as the starter since he was called the "backup QB" earlier this week by Coach Smartis a little premature. Lets go back to just last season, Smart decided on D'Wan Mathis at Quarterback in the season opener. That decision lasted all of 1 quarter before he was replaced by QB Stetson Bennett. Bennett took over that day and eventually started the next 5 games leading the Dawgs to a 3-2 record before being replaced by JT Daniels after the Florida game.

So whats Coach Kirby Smart to do...

Does Coach Kirby Smart go with a known commodity in Stetson Bennett? A QB that is limited but has mobility and has won game versus SEC teams like Auburn and Tennessee?

OR

Does Kirby look at backup Carson Beck who has won the backup job to JT Daniels in the Fall but has very limited game reps?

Our guess is The Dawgs start with Carson Beck but has a short leash with Stetson Bennett in the wings...

We will all wait and see tomorrow at 3:30pm...
